ScubaSight® Dive Mirror Versus Ordinary Signal Mirror

ScubaSight :

  • has a bungee strap to keep it securely on the hand while signaling.
  • is made for scuba diving and guaranteed to be completely waterproof. The reflectivity of the mirror is unaffected by salt water.
  • has many uses for the scuba diver besides signaling. You may never need a signal mirror but can use ScubaSight on every dive.

Is ScubaSight® a rearview mirror for divers ?

A rear view mirror is used on a road vehicle. It is adjusted and left in a fixed position and used by the driver to see in one direction. There is a big difference between driving down the road and scuba diving. While diving we are surrounded by water and move about in a 3 dimensional world which has six directions, up/down (altitude), north/south (latitude) and east/west (longitude) and when diving our vision is limited by a mask and our movement by equipment, in fact while wearing a normal scuba mask we have much less than the peripheral vision required to obtain a drivers license in 45 of the 50 United States.

The ScubaSight mirror is designed to be used for scuba diving and is not limited to a fixed position or only one use. The mirror can cover a multitude of directions by simply moving it to a different position. The bungee strap makes it easy to move the mirror quickly to the front or back of either hand while still keeping the rest of the body in a streamlined position. This means that by using the mirror we are able to move efficiently through the water while at the same time monitoring equipment, other divers and any sea creatures that may be around us.

ScubaSight® - USES

  • Inspect scuba equipment while underwater.
    • Inspect tank valves and hose connections to check for gas leaks. ScubaSight® can be used to instantly see the size and location of a leak.
    • Using the mirror enables you to shut down the correct side of a doubles manifold with no guesswork in the event of a leak in your system.
    • Check rebreathers.
    • Use the mirror to inspect your mask before entering the water to check for hair caught under the mask skirt which would cause it to leak. If the mask begins to leak underwater, ScubaSight can be used to see what the problem is and fix it, which allows you to avoid surfacing and enjoy the rest of your dive.
    • Pinpoint the location of a leak in your dry suit by using the mirror
  • Locate
    • a dive buddy that ends up above or behind you. No need to twist around to find them. Stay in a streamlined horizontal position and check your mirror.
    • equipment that somehow ends up caught behind you. Relax and find it in your mirror.
  • Escape from entanglements by using the mirror to see what you are caught on and then calmly detach yourself.
  • Spot divers above you on a crowded line while simultaneously monitoring your gauges. Using the mirror allows you to stay in a relaxed horizontal position while moving up a line and helps you to make a slow controlled ascent.
  • Use ScubaSight as a signal mirror at the surface. The flash from a mirror can be seen for many miles and is the most effective signaling device.
  • You can use the mirror to redirect sunlight to see into shadows and under ledges.
  • Visually track sea creatures that are in different places, for example you can use the mirror to keep track of a shark overhead while observing a ray in the sand on the bottom.
  • While in a cave or cavern you can scan the ceiling for fossils by using your mirror and a light while staying in a comfortable relaxed horizontal position.
  • Use ScubaSight while doing a surface swim to wreck and marker buoys. You can relax on your back and kick to the site while using your mirror to keep an eye on the marker behind you. This method saves you from constantly flipping over to make sure you're still headed in the right direction.
  • You can avoid having an instructor or mischievous dive buddy use your blind spots to sneak up on you. On second thought, perhaps you should let your instructor do his job.
  • You can use your ScubaSight mirror to check your face for nasel mucous after finishing your dive.
  • Use the mirror to sight down the length of your body to make sure your configuration is streamlined and you have no danglies
  • For fun the mirror can be used to observe the reaction of sea creatures when seeing their own reflection.

Why use air robbing underwater acrobatics and manuvers just to see around, above or behind yourself while diving?

Use ScubaSight® for safety, comfort and fun.

ScubaSight® is made in the USA and guaranteed to be completely waterproof. The reflectivity of the mirror is unaffected by salt water.
