The Sachem has been sitting on a tiny Ohio River tributary for more than 30 years, rusting away and becoming a target for vandals. Its past has been sorely neglected and rarely shared, even if it occasionally attracts interest as a location for urban exploration. Constructed in 1901, she participated in both World Wars, functioned as Thomas Edison’s unique underwater laboratory, and handled about 3,000,000 passengers over her extensive tenure.
I (part-time explorer) additionally adore that this exploration offers a singular chance to bridge my channel’s two primary areas of interest. In addition to its extensive marine past, we get to explore and scale a lonely ruin.
If you want to visit the Sachem, be aware that she is private property and it is considered trespassing to board her. I contacted in advance to seek permission to put this project together.
